Windows Server 2019 RDP Connection Issue After KB5122876

Some Windows Server 2019 VPSs may experience Remote Desktop connection problems after installing Microsoft update KB5122876, which updates Windows Server 2019 to build 17763.9245.

You may experience errors such as:

The two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted.

In some cases, RDP may also report that the password is incorrect even though the same password works through VNC or console access.

Restarting the VPS may make RDP work again temporarily, but the issue can return.

Based on our testing, rolling back the recent Windows Server 2019 cumulative update resolves the RDP connection issue on affected systems.

How to Fix the RDP Issue

  1. Access your VPS.
If RDP is still working, you can connect normally.
If RDP is not working, use the VNC or console option from your client area.
  2. Download the NovaRDP Windows Server 2019 fix tool:

Download Windows Server 2019 RDP Fix Tool
  3. Copy the downloaded Fix-RDP-Server2019-KB5122876-v2.bat file inside your Windows VPS.
  4. Double-click the file.
  5. Windows may ask for Administrator permission. Click Yes.
  6. The tool will automatically check whether KB5122876 / build 17763.9245 is installed.

If the affected update is not installed, the tool will make no changes.

If the affected update is installed, the tool will automatically begin removing it.
  7. Wait for the process to finish.

Do not close the window while the update is being removed. The process may take several minutes depending on the VPS.
  8. Once the process finishes successfully, you will see:
    Rollback command completed successfully.
  9. The tool will then display:
    Press ENTER to reboot now.
Press Enter to restart the VPS.
  10. During the restart, Windows may display messages such as:
    Working on updates
    or:
    Getting Windows ready
This is normal while Windows completes the rollback. Do not force power off the VPS during this process.
  11. Once Windows starts again, try connecting to the VPS through Remote Desktop.

Will This Delete My Data?

No. The tool does not reinstall Windows, format your VPS, or delete your files.

It only removes the affected Windows cumulative update and temporarily disables Windows Update to prevent the same update from being installed again automatically.

Important

This fix is intended only for affected Windows Server 2019 systems running KB5122876 / build 17763.9245.

The tool checks your system automatically before making any changes. If the affected update is not installed, the tool will display a message and make no changes to the VPS.
